Real solutions are NEVER reactionary but proactive. The social, cultural and political complexion of our people has to change…and our people are the only ones that can do it; no assistance can, will, or should be expected to come from anywhere/anyone else.
So if we’re REALLY ’bout that life, we can’t condemn the hateful violence against Mike Brown and the subsequent blatant disregard for our life value that the town of Ferguson just demonstrated to the world WITHOUT condemning our own active participation via the promotion of death and destruction of our own culturally (via popular music/entertainment, etc.), that leads directly to our own self hate-filled disregard of the lives of our own. We cannot cheerfully kill each other in the streets of Syracuse NY and other cities and simultaneously condemn the killer(s) of Mike Brown.
If it’s racism when others do it to us, what do we call it when we do it to ourselves? What can we honestly say to others, when by our own treatment of each other we give them permission?
