Is American Citizenship Important?

1 229

“I AM A CITIZEN OF THE U.S.A.”

~ A proclamation found on the Nationality Card for the M.S.T.A.

Recently, the famous Hip-Hop artist Slick Rick was granted U.S. Citizenship after dealing with a 23-year legal battle with the United States government. For decades, he fought to keep from being deported to the United Kingdom (he was born in London). Slick Rick now enjoys dual citizenship and stated the following words at his naturalization ceremony:

“I am so proud of this moment – and so honored to finally become an American citizen…. This has been a long time coming for me, and I am relieved to finally put this long chapter behind me. I want to thank everyone – my family, friends and fans – who have supported me and stuck by me over these 23 years. I am truly blessed – and stay tuned, I will have more to announce soon.”

Now one may ask the question, “Why would Slick Rick go through such lengths to become an American Citizen? After all, London isn’t that bad… What’s the big deal?” Another question that should be asked is the following: Is American citizenship really important?

Within the Moorish Movement, there has been unfortunately a growing misconception. The misconception, which permeates among many who identify themselves as Moors, is the idea that being a citizen equates to being a “subject” (i.e. slave) to a corporation. Some Moors have even gone as far as to suggest that the founder of the Moorish Science Temple of America, Prophet Noble Drew Ali, propagated such ideology. This could not be further from the truth.

Before we delve into what Prophet Noble Drew Ali actually stated about citizenship, let’s look into the legal definition of the word “citizen”.It states the following in Black’s Law Dictionary:

“CITIZEN – In general, A member of a free city or jural society, (civitas.) possessing all the rights and privileges which can be enjoyed by any person under its constitution and government, and subject to the corresponding duties.”

As you can see, there is no mention of subject, slave, artificial person or corporation within that definition. The word citizen simply comes from the word city. A “jural society” is just another way of saying “nation”, as it states in the following definition in Black’s Law Dictionary:

“NATION – A people, or aggregation of men, existing in the form of an organized jural society, inhabiting a distinct portion of the earth, speaking the same language, using the same customs, possessing historic continuity, and distinguished from other like groups by their racial origin and characteristics, and generally, but not necessarily, living under the same government and sovereignty.”

From a nation, one can have a nationality. Nationality is that quality or character that arises from the fact of one belonging to a nation. However to belong to that nation or jural society, one must be a member of it. To be a member of a free and organized jural society is to be a citizen.

Now, some Moors have often used the following verbiage, “I am not a citizen. I am a Moorish National.” That sounds good… However, what they do not consider the fact that, according to United States Nationality law, all citizens are nationals.

Furthermore, the idea of one being a national without being a citizen implies that such person is not a member of any free jural society. For example, a person, who was born in American Samoa, would be classified as a U.S. National but not a U.S. Citizen. This is because American Samoa is an occupied territory of the United States of America and not its own free jural society. However, we Moorish Americans are indeed members of a free jural society. Now, let’s review the words of Prophet Noble Drew Ali…

“The Negro problem is being solved only as it can, and that is by the Moorish National Divine Movement. If you have a nation you must have a free national name in order to be recognized by this nation as an American citizen.”.

~ Excerpt from “Prophet Drew Ali Speaks To The Nations”

“I know all true American citizens are identified by national descent names to answer and apply to the free national constitution of this free National Republic of the United States of America. That’s why I am calling on all true national citizens to help me morally and financially in my great work I am doing to help this national government. For without a free national name, without a descent flag of your forefathers, there is not a national divine title of the government in which we live.”

~ Excerpt from “Prophet Makes A Plea To The Nation”

“I, the Prophet, was prepared by the Great God Allah to warn my people to repent from their sinful ways and go back to that state of mind to their forefathers Divine and National principles that they will be law-abiders and receive their divine right as citizens, according to the free national constitution that was prepared for all free national beings.”

~ Excerpt from “A Divine Warning By The Prophet For The Nations”

“In all other governments when a man is born and raised there and asked for his national descent name and if he fails to give it. he is misused, imprisoned, or exiled. Any group of people that fail to answer up to the constitutional standards of law by name and principles, because to be a citizen of any government you must claim your national descent name. Because they place their trust upon issue and names formed by their forefathers.”

~ Excerpt from “A Divine Warning By The Prophet For The Nations”

“The object of our Organization is to help in the great program of uplifting fallen humanity and teach those things necessary to make our members better citizens.”

~ Excerpt from “Moorish Leader’s Historical Message To America”

“Inspired by the lofty teachings of the Koran, we have it as the revealed word of God Allah. We shall foster the principles of its teachings among our members. This is our religious privilege as American citizens, under the laws of one of the greatest documents of all time-the American Constitution.”

~ Excerpt from “Moorish Leader’s Historical Message To America”

  1. Thomas D. El says

Regarding “American” citizenship, we must take into consideration, that, before the 13-15th Amendments to the Constitution for the United States of America, there were American Citizens, and, like Noble Drew Ali states in the Moorish Literature Excerpts, “…since that Constitution has never been changed, there is no need for the application of the 14th & 15th Amendments for the salvation of Our people as Citizens”.

This indicates therefore, that there were American Citizens long before there were “United States Citizens”/Citizens of the United States”. There has long been discussion of there being a difference between, “American Citizens”, and “United States/U.S. Citizens”. Additionally, the Prophet worded Our nationality and identification cards as “I AM A CITIZEN OF THE U.S.A.”

Some hold the position that American Citizen is that same as U.S. Citizen; possibly referring to the popular/common use of those designations interchangeably, in everyday parlance. However, before the founding of the “stile of this confederacy known as the “united states of America”, in 1774, there was the “Western Hemisphere”, i.e. “America”, it is just as proper to refer to inhabitant of the Western Hemisphere as an “American Citizen”, even if they are not U.S. Citizens! Some may not agree, but, that does not change the fact that there were American Citizens before the establishment of the 13 original colonies! This is borne out by the prior “Articles of Confederation”, and the 8 Presidents of the United States of America, prior to the election of George Washington as President.

There IS a difference, and one must be aware when referring to yourself as either a United States Citizen, or American Citizen/Citizen of the U.S.A.
